February 27 - comment on this before Sunday's rehearsal.

Themes – desperation, decay, dead end, death row, darkness – love Ashlynn’s the River Styx

Style – not realism

Bodies need to match the metaphor

Speak like it’s poetry

Work in an emotional level

Opening – louder and longer

Quixote –absorb the environment- your lines were delivered the same with same pauses.  Be a little faster

Gutman- bigger, lower register, DICTION

Prudence – hat?

Gypsy – show a poster of Esmeralda – to fix and gray hair.

Villagers were very good, but need stylization

The audience can see people backstage on right stage.

DICTION FOR EVERYONE

Each block must build – have a climax

Look at groupings

Streetcleaners – more mysterious

Stylized moaning

Kadyn – sing beginning with Amy’s Camino Reel through Cassanova’s dreams.

Cassonova – more resonance, deeper, be larger, be a lothario

You paused too long with one of your lines with Marguerite (honor)

Stage lights were off in gypsy scene – shining on wall and did not cover Cassanova’s face left stage.

Gypsy – lower pitch, slow down

Villagers must be stylized before Kilroy’s entrance – villagers loosely with palms open

Kilroy – voice and body must match – lower register

Kilroy – rush to Cassanova after guard exits.

Guards – kylie and evan – you both have happy feet and are swaying.

Everyone – note the first mention of death

Everyone – don’t react normally

Streetcleaners must be stylized

Stylize the fighting dance

Is there an outside force?  Be more aware of the fear of death – fear of terra incognita – the audience

A sense of fear must permeate the stage.

Cassanova and Kilroy – important that we need to know about what happens to the dead people

Gutman –build on bocks.

Gutman – hold up patsy uniform

Chase must be a stylized dance.   Villagers are a barrier between Kilroy and Esmeralda.  She tries to get to him, so she climbs onto the well.

Rehearse with rebellious music

Rehearse with frightening music

Marguerite’s scene – bring downstage

Cassanova – more birdlike – flowing hands – be a player

Blocks – see red light more

Departure on Fugitivo – the other side is heaven – react accordingly.  Vocals are muddied

Block 10 interact with flashing lights – helmets?

Block 10 – no one was there.

Personalize the fiesta

Villagers and Kilroy – stylize the disrobing

How big is your heart – dicton

Shooting downstage –survivor – 2 clear shots.  Guards be more threatening.

Marguerite – loved the barring of your teeth – looked crazy.

Ritz light was not on – neither was the yellow light.

Gypsy – virginity line was said upstage and we lost it. Slow down on the Walgreen sign – it was funny.

Block 12 – no one was there.

Kadyn – need for you to sing.

Don’t forget new lines

Sydney and evan – What else do I have that you want?  Nothing

Sam – desperation – with cash here without cash there.

Payton – sing right after leaving on a jet plane and through not without me

Block 15 during madrecita and instructor

CUTS –

On page 19 cut from Gutman’s line about desperation – clock will still light up – go to Block 9

On block 12 – cut after vamoose- go to block 13

Block 13

Kilroy – cut gimme a cot.

Kilroy – Cassanova- cut after I understand, Brother- go to Block 14

Marguerite & Kilroy – cut I wasn’t expecting that music  Keep the streetcleaners are coming for me. The gypsy told me.

Marguerite – cut thanks for taking mine.

Marguerite & Kilroy – cut lines about street being royal.

Kilroy’s entrance –The suitcase is going to be on top of the blue suitcase under the cage – I think. At the end, Kylie grab Kilroy’s suitcase and hand it to him.

  2. So excited for the changes we've made!! Warming up today I actually put myself in the play and thought about how my character would feel about the environment and characters around me. I think that really helped me take my performance a step up

  5. Riley, each time you say what do you want, make it sound as if you are getting more angry and annoyed. They all sound the same
Also, at the very end when jonah is writing on the suitcase for the last time, it takes a while and is kinda awkward
I can't wait to see how the show will evolve from here! Great job everyone!

  7. good job everyone!! I think yesterday was Mac & Sydney's best performance and I think we can learn from them on how much emotion to put into each line. Also can some of the fugitivo people take the suitcases after y'all leave because me and Kadyn have to carry have like 4 everytime.

  8. I think we need to work on the clock because a few time the stage would be lit so the silhouettes were lost

  19. One question I think everyone needs to answer individually is what fills up the well at the end? Does the well represent something different for each of us or does it provide one symbol that we all cling to? If we figure out how the well gets filled and why I think this will strengthen our commitment to the show and give us a better understanding of the Camino.

    1. I think the well represents personal freedom. Everyone needs water and without the well we all have to turn to Gutman to survive, meaning we must do as he says, while the well is dry we are his slaves... his playthings. The well being refilled is our escape from his control. We no longer need to turn to him for essential needs. Not only does the well being full once more grant us water to drink it also provides us with a way to grow our own crops. Citizens could once again bath themselves, or clean the streets. No longer must we live in this filthy, starvation filled city. I think we need to show Gutman`s control over the water a little more, yes he has soldiers but his control over the water is what controls the people. I feel like we need to show Gutman manipulating people with the water, or dangling, it in peoples faces.

  20. NO ONE IS NORMAL. I feel like an idiot when I wave my arms and no one else does. I hope it looks ok because I love how Lou said that normal physical things are not to be looked at as normal in this show.
